Governments, companies and privacy

The company I work for (in Australia) just got puchased by Compuware (American company).

From what I understand, as a Compuware employee and under the US’ homeland security act, my personal details are available to the American government.

Can you believe that?

I am an Australian citizen, but the American Governement has more access to my personal details than the Australian governement… just through being an employee of an American company!!

Im flabergasted!

According to this article:

“A 2006 survey by Forrester of 294 US companies resulted in the claim that “more than a third of American companies with 1,000 or more workers say they employ people to read through other employees’ outbound e-mail”, with around half of those organisations “regularly” going through outbound email “in search of rule-breaking” (including leaked trade secrets, improperly disclosed financial information or illegally released health records). “

So now there is a good chance that my emails are being read by some person in the US. According to the International Labor Organisation (ILO), this is a violation of basic human rights and dignity.

Cripes … how do I deal with this situation …
