Project management is the discipline of organizing and managing resources (e.g. people) in a way that the project is completed within defined scope, quality, time and cost constraints (according to Wikipedia).
thinking out loud ….
scope is how far you go, how much you will do, how much you define. For Ambisonia, that would be features (like the uploader).
quality…hmm… what is quality? I guess that would be things like having a web page design that works identically in IE6, 7 Firefox, Safari and Opera. I guess its also going to be things like making sure I remove the “binaural coming soon” links I have currently have on Ambisonia (that have been there for a long time).
time. Its clear what time is. But defining when something can reasonably be expected to be finished is very very difficult…. especially in the software world. And especially when the effort you have to spend on it is peripheral.
cost. For me, time is money. Every week-day I spend working on Ambisonia I lose a decent amount of money. Recently, I have been thinking that I would be better off employing a ‘junior’ to do some development. (are you a junior? email me … hmmm I dont think there’s any ‘juniors’ reading this blog).
anyway … back to the Uploader.
